  • What does "cultural" mean in Article 25 of the Constitution?
Thinking about "a society with wonderful chance encounters"
  • Associate Professor Miho Nakamura
  • In considering the nature of "cultural rights" that recognize people's involvement in culture as a human right, he focused on the word "cultural" in Article 25, Paragraph 1 of the Japanese Constitution, which states, "All people shall have the right to maintain the minimum standards of wholesome and cultured living." He compiled a book on cultural rights that takes a diverse analytical approach, not only from a legal perspective but also from historical and literary perspectives, entitled "The Right to a Cultural Life: The Potential of Article 25 of the Constitution from the Perspective of Cultural Policy Research," for which he received the first "Academic Society Encouragement Award" from the Japan Association for Cultural Policy Research.
